Approaching the 1 year mark …

In 3 weeks and 4 days time will mark exactly 1 year since the major below-knee amputation of my left leg. I can not believe it is nearly 1 year since this has occurred. There have been so many struggles it isn’t funny and there have been some highs as well, not many though, but still some.

I have got a lot of support from friends overseas and locally on Facebook and Twitter. It has helped a lot like you would not believe.

My prosthetic leg isn’t finished yet, it is still a work in progress, but it is nearly done and I am already up and about once or twice a week on the dummy run at the moment with a walking frame. But it is slowly working. My next goal with it is to be able to stand at the stove and cook a decent home-cooked meal all by myself, and something proper like Beef Chow Mein or Savoury Mince or something similar.

When my prosthetic leg is finished I will then be able to use it to go into the pool, which will make things a lot easier. I am hoping I might be able to get into the pool over the coming couple of weeks. That is another goal of mine at the moment is to get back into the pool and swim on a weekly basis again.

I am aware there are some major struggles coming in the not-too-distant future, but I am not going to go into that at the moment as I don’t want to get myself all depressed and anxious again. I will post about it when it is about to happen and then keep people posted. Only a couple of close friends know about it at the moment, family don’t know cause they don’t talk to me anymore. But that is their loss.

Anyway enough rambling from me for now, another post coming soon … And that will be about my respite period, and that isn’t going to be a very good post, to be honest. But it’s one I feel needs to be shared.
