This is a follow-up post from my previous post titled ‘Heart Surgery Update + Advance Care Directive (ACD)‘, which was posted on Monday, April 7th, 2025.
On Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, I met with my Cardiothoracic Surgeon in North Sydney at his private clinic. The news was worse than expected as to the valves to my heart, but at the end of the day, the outcome of needing open heart bypass surgery did not change. What did change was that it would no longer be a max. of 3 months before surgery; he is expecting to have me in surgery within 2 weeks after the Easter Holidays, so in roughly 1 month. Now this is so real. This is no longer a joke. This is now serious.
Am I still scared, even after meeting the person who will be performing the open heart surgery? You bet I am. Am I going to back out like I have with things in the past? Hell no. Even with the risks, this is a major surgery that is needed. It was surprising that I was sitting before him, considering how bad my valves are.
Over the next week or so, I will have my support worker begin helping me prepare my suitcase for my next stay in the hospital. I could be given very little notice as to when surgery will occur. He does know I need to arrange transport, and he will try to give me a week’s notice, but this may not be possible. So things could move quickly. There can be no more having my phone on silent during the day for the time being until I am admitted.
So by the end of May 2025, I should be alive and kicking and a part of the zipper club.
Right now, I am going to leave this post as is and do minor update posts as more news comes to hand. Again, I will only post here after I have informed family prior, as I don’t want them finding out the news over social media or through my blog.
